                        FESTIVALS *

           1995 to 2004 :


           The FANS received numerous
           coveted awards-the EXCELLENCE
           AWARDS / FIRST PRIZE AWARDS
           for overall presentations.   Overall
           presentations include: Folk Dancers,
           Cultural Booth, Food Booth & BBQ
           Booth.

          Seven (7) Awards were presented
          by the Director of the Multicultural
          Association of Nova Scotia (MANS)
          over the years to the Presidents of
          the FANS as follows:

            Featuring Leander Mendoza
            and Nadia Moore in Concert.

            Sunday, 27 november, 2011 @ 6 PM
            St. John the Baptist Catholic
            Parish Center, 26 Purcell's  Cove
            Road,  Halifax, Nova Scotia.

                    Admission: $ 20.00

            It was an evening  of  exceptional
            entertainment!   The attendees
            chanted " MORE", "MORE".  Leander
            and Nadia delivered  "MORE" !!!

            A portion of the proceeds was
                   donated to FANS.

       * Dr. Jacobo R. Asuncion ,Jr. was a
          contributor to Mr. Tes de Guzman's
          book entitled: "FILIPINOS IN CANADA",
          December, 1983.

          2012.JANUARY.01

       * Fund Raiser For Flood Victims of
          Southern Philippines: Cagayan de Oro

          The FANS & Durty Nelly's Irish Pub
          Co-operatively raised funds & donated
          it to the Canadian Red Cross.
          The Filipino cooks prepared a Buffet
          Dinner with Filipino Specialty Food.
          It was a gastronomic delight ! Karaoke
          sing-a-long carried through the night!

       * Valentine Dinner & Dance  at  the
           Pacifico's  Martini Lounge

          It was a success and a memorable
          night !  Amado Foronda's brief comment
          about the Valentinos & Valentinas added
          accent to the " Night to Remember".
         
          The Dinner and Dance was great !

          The FANS "Taboo" Dinner & Dance
           at Grafton Street, Halifax, N. S.

          The Filipino cooks at Taboo Night
          Club prepared a Buffet Dinner with
          letson, pancit,fresh lumpia, sarsiado
          na isda,adobo etc.

          The Bar and Dancing was busy through
           the night!    Ticket:  $20.00

       * Reception Dinner for the Philippine
          Ambassador.

          His Excellency, the Philippine Ambas-
          sador Leslie B. Gatan & Embassy
          Officials were  treated  with a Dinner
          & Entertainment at Estia Restaurant. 
          Leander Mendoza & Nadia Moore
          entertained them.

          Admission: $30.00 (Includes Dinner
                               and Entertainment).

                       BASKETBALL  LEAGUE  ***
                          ( P H B L )

   

       * August 12, 2012 was a significant historic
         landmark in our FANS LIVING HISTORY!
         Why? The  PILIPINOS  in  HALIFAX 
         BASKETBALL  LEAGUE  was founded
         on Sunday,  AUGUST 12, 2012.   It
         was the first-ever Basketball League
         in the  FANS LIVING HISTORY !!!


         Sunday, 12 August, 2012 
                    at 8:30 A.M.

         ST. ANDREW'S  RECREATION  CENTER 
                           GYMNASIUM 
           3380 Barnstead Lane, Haifax, N.S.
           ( formerly named: 6955 Bayers Rd )             

         

            Grand Opening Ceremonies:

                    " O' Canada!"

                       to PHB League !!!"

             The games are on-going every
             Sunday morning from 9:00 A.M. to
             12:00 P.M.  Everyone is welcome

        At present, six teams with 10
        members each had been organi
        zed.  The intent is to complete
        the PHB League by adding four
        more teams- A TOTAL OF
        10  TEAMS.


        The Current Six Teams playing
        in the league are as follows
        in alphabetical order :

         1. Mga Batang Mandirigma
                     (Young Guns)

         2. Maka-bagong Mandirigma

         3. Mandirigma ng Herring Cove

         4. Mandirigma ng Jack Daniels

         5. Mandirigma ng Lacewood

         6. Mandigma ng Subway
       

        Purposes:

        To meet and know each other
        through basketball as a whole-
        some sport.  New Filipino
        Immigrants are welcome to
        join.  Commitment is required.



       Game Format:

       There will be two round robins :

       1st Round Robin.

             . Five(5) teams will compete
               with each other ;

             . Four(4) games per team ;

             . Whoever  has the lowest
               score-team will be elimina-
               ted.

             . There will be only one
               1st round robin team winner !!!


       * 2nd Round Robin:

             . Five(5) teams will compete
               with each other;

             . Four(4) games per team;

             . Whoever has the lowest
                score-team will be elimi-
                nated;

             .There will be only one
               2nd round robin winner !!!


       Finally, the 1st & 2nd round
             robin winners will compete,
             and the winner will be
     
           * The 2012 CHAMPION
               of the  PHBL !!!

           * This will be an 
               annual event !

        .The 1st Filipino Men Basketball League is
              organized in Halifax!

        . The Next one to be organized is probably
              the 1st Filipina Women Basketball
              League !

        Mike Esteban, the Commissioner  was
        interviewed by Global News : " At first,
        we were playing basketball every day.
        Then, we said, why don't we organize
        a Basketball League?  And so , we did !!!

        "The next thing, is to organize  a  Women's
        League. Well, probably next year !!! "
